The British Vacuum Cleaner and Engineering Company was founded in 1902 by consulting engineer Hubert Cecil Booth (1871-1955). Hubert Cecil Booth F.C.G.I., M.I.C.E., (1871-1955) was born in Gloucester, England. Provincial Incandescent Fittings Co Ltd was established by Joseph Webber in 1900, to sell lighting appliances and accessories. It became a public company in 1902. In 1949 their name was officially shortened to Pifco. Pifco manufacturered many appliances, including teasmades, as well as fairy lights, torches, lamps, desk fans, hairclippers, hairdryers, multimeters, trouser presses, a hand held massager, and even a toy ray gun!
